Most minor critique ever. I grew super poor and now as an adult I do pretty well. It took me several years to get to a point where I would buy anyone a gift. As a kid I obviously had no option of giving gifts and it literally never crossed my mind even when I would receive gifts. I think it’s not quite clear that you can and likely should give gifts once you have the means if you grew up without it even being a consideration as it was never an option at all. So idk. I picked up maus on account of this video, valdek reminds me of people in my community here in Canada who repeat abuse though generations. I’ve even had the chance to work in mental health wards with people who both experienced and continue to perpetuate abuse due to colonialism. It’s hard to reconcile with how trauma shows up in people and how the pattern repeats.

The parts of the video were everyone is milling in the car park in the morning is so infuriating to me, I always put my hand up to help up at my kids school to help with things like running the BBQ or helping to take classes out on excursions, but I always see the same ten or so parents across our year group of about 200 kids who are offering to help out. These people are putting so much energy into organising a rally to chant hate, just think about how much better the world could be if people cared about everyone, especially those of us who are struggling.
